About Maison Boulvern

Discover the story, spirit and warm hospitality of Maison Boulvern, a charming guest house in Plomodiern, in the heart of Finistère.

Come and share the charm of our Bed & Breakfast with us.

Maison Boulvern is a balanced blend of authenticity and modernity. A place where wonderfully preserved nature meets the living culture of Brittany. Josje welcomes you with simplicity and warmth, together with her husband Luc, their twin sons Arthur and Tristan, and their cats Marley and Sting.

Set in the heart of a one-and-a-half-hectare property, our guest house offers three bright, elegant and comfortable rooms in a peaceful and tranquil setting. Each room enjoys a soothing view over the surrounding countryside of the Porzay plain.

Opening onto the dining room, our lounge can welcome up to eight guests for reading, dining, conversation or even a work meeting. In winter, the fireplace brings warmth to the atmosphere. We serve a generous breakfast with bread from some of the region’s best bakeries, accompanied whenever possible by local and organic produce. And if you wish, you are also welcome to join us at our table d’hôtes for dinner. Josje, a skilled home cook, prepares original recipes using fresh, local and organic ingredients.

Maison Boulvern is what people in the region call a maison patate, literally a “potato house”. It was built in 1956 by a grower of seed potatoes. After the Second World War, many farmers took advantage of Brittany’s rich soil and favourable climate to grow potatoes for replanting, shaping many agricultural success stories in the region.

The architect paid particular attention to giving the house a stately manor-like appearance while keeping everyday practicality in mind. For example, the dining room can be accessed directly from the garden, allowing workers to enter without muddying the rest of the house with their clogs. The crockery cabinet also opens onto the corridor side, so that the cook did not need to walk through the dining room unnecessarily.

The more refined character of a grand residence can be seen in the stone façade, in the lounge with its wooden picture rails, and in its distinctly Art Deco fireplace. The wide staircase also contributes to the sense of space and elegance that gives Maison Boulvern its unique charm.
